The Learning Tree is a Houston-based learning center for preschool aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Using proven applied behavior analysis therapy, we teach children the social skills they need to integrate into the public school system and reach all new potential.
The Learning Tree Services
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to enter primary school with the skills and confidence needed to be successful. Sometimes, however, additional support is necessary in the preschool years in order to be prepared for a public school setting. This is especially true for children with developmental delays, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Learning Tree’s applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy program is designed to do just that.
Preparing Autistic Children for Public School
Children with ASD learn differently than their neuro-typical peers, especially in regards to social cues. As a result, many autistic children struggle in a public school setting. Early intervention helps to better prepare them for the social and academic expectations of kindergarten and beyond. Our ABA therapy is centered on the following principles:
- Meaningful Care: our focused, meaningful care is custom-tailored to your child’s needs and built upon mutual trust and transparent communication with you and your child.
- Building Self-Confidence: Children with ASD possess a variety of exceptional talents. Our mission is to build your child’s confidence in order to tap into their unlimited potential.
- Client-Led: we devote our efforts to personalized one-on-one learning to meet your child’s individual pace and needs.

Your Child’s Root Program to Success
We provide the following support as a part of your child’s individualized therapy plan, all of which are designed to prepare your child for a public school classroom setting.
Communication is imperative for success in both social and academic situations. We help your child develop their expressive and receptive language using research-based strategies such as Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS), as well as Echoics, Mands, and Tacts.
Self-regulation and self-awareness are important skills that many children build in their preschool and early elementary years. Children with ASD, however, often struggle to regulate their emotions, thoughts, and behavior, which may lead to their needs not being met. We work closely with your child to develop these skills with consideration to their specific learning style and sensory needs.
Education at all levels involves a great deal of socialization, as this is how we learn how to fit into the world around us. Children with ASD may greatly benefit from supportive behavioral therapies designed to foster successful peer interactions, support cooperative peer play, and build self-esteem.
Typically, we learn through play, but many young learners with ASD struggle to participate in cooperative play with peers. Therefore, we offer direct exposure to the play behaviors they’re likely to see in public school, such as functional play, sharing, cooperative games and activities, and pretend play. We also build their fine and gross motor skills, as well as oral motor performance and motor imitation so your child develops awareness of their physical movements and mannerisms.
In order for your child to learn and grow, they must first be able to care for their own needs and remain safe. We provide therapy in self-care, community safety, and task completion so they build the confidence and autonomy needed to be successful.
